Transitioning from Traditional Locks
Well, let me tell you that I had a boring spirt earlier this summer and began picking out about five locks in the back. It was to see if I could do it and what shape my hair would be in. So once I talked to my loctician, we agreed that it would be an alternative to cutting them all off, and we began by cutting about 10-12 inches of my traditional locks, then the seven inches that were left, she combed out. It was not a hard process, just time consuming. We both agreed that trying to comb out almost 17 inches of hair would be rediculous. So at the end, I was left with about 7 inches of the most "georgeous" locks I know of (hee-hee), except yours! Thanks for commenting on my blog. I didn't think anyone was reading my blog. Now I am one week away from my first retightening and I can't wait. I have only spritzed it and rolled it up since they were began, and I can't wait to return to Kim to see what other products would be good to use. I am using a soft foam roller, but I think the spritz I'm using is making a build up. Anyone have any other suggestions.

The Journey Begins
In July I had my first consultation with the SL consultant. She was attentive and informative and we set a date for August 19-20 for my Journey to begin. First Kim, my consultant, cut about 5-6 inches from my traditional locks, then she cut another three inches and began combing out the remaining locks. Let me tell you, I am "tenderheaded" and had not felt such torture since I was a little girl. She ended our day by shampooing and putting my hair up in a marvelous large puff ball on the top of my head. My journey would continue the next day and I could barely sleep. It's funny how earlier in the summer, while I was a "SLer-in-waiting", I combed out about five of my traditional locks. Most people are under the impression that traditional locks have to be cut, but that is not the case. Mine were cut down because it would have taken forever to comb out all the length I had. The photo at the beginning of my blog shows the back of one of my updos. Since I am new to blogging, please be patient with the photos, because I'm not to proficient in that area yet. Also, my consultant has promised to email me the photos she took at the shop. Let me just stop here to say, I am anxious to join the Bloggers community, but, like I said, I'm new at this and would appreciate comments. Anyway, I am six days old and have the "handinhairitis"!

Sisterlocks birthday - August 20, 2007

Hello!
I am finally beginning my blog for my brand new SLs. I want to first give a shout out to Kimberly Nesmith-Lewis of Endless Creations of You, http://www.endlesscreationsltd.com, who I bonded with on our very first consultation and there was no question as to whether this sista new her way around some hair. Let me tell you her shop was the third one I had visited in the Philly area, and the only one who offered a "service". I'm not going to take the time to mention the two I turned down to do my locks, but let's just say, I did my homework. From the minute I decided to transition from my traditional locks, I read a lot of blogs and found Reelgirl very helpful along with Brunsli (I'll check the spelling). I had to wait for about a month before I could get an appointment and in the meantime, I read a lot about SLs, and read what other locked sistas were saying about their locks. I couldn't wait. I was glad to see how versatile these locks were and that is what I was looking for. I was at a point where my traditionals were so heavy and thick, there weren't many style options for me except the 'PONY TAIL". I wanted more! The photo is of my traditional locks in an updo, and I will share more of my new due when I get them. I need to say that in 2000 I began braiding my hair after having enough hair on my bathroom floor to make a wig! I was tired, like everyone else who wears permed hair, of the broken hair, the damage to my hair and I knew there was a better way. I located a braider and she kept me in fabulous styles until the perm was gone and I was ready for the next phase of my natural hair journey. My friend Maria began her two strand twists first, then she started mine. I kept that up for a while, but my hair got out of control and more than I could handle. We investigated some natural hair salons and ended in Nnobi's on Ridge Ave. For seven years we were a pair. She kept my locks "tight" and I thank her to this day. However, I needed a change. and began thinking about SLs. I had an appointment for August to get maintenance, but Kim had already told me that we wanted as much new growth as we could get. Anyway, I had to call Nnobi to let her know about my plans to change to SLs and she was okay with that (she doesn't do SLs, but she can work some natural hair), and I was ready for the next phase of my Journey. I want to describe every detail and I will at a later time. Let me hear from you.
